In today's current state of video editing, many people think that video editing is all about transitions and making things look "cool." While transitions and visual effects can certainly add to the overall impact of a video, they are only a small part of what makes good video editing.
The major component of editing, in my opinion, is feeling. A good video editor knows when to make a cut, which shot to use, and how to seamlessly integrate different shots and scenes together. It's about finding the right rhythm and flow for the video, and creating a cohesive narrative that engages the viewer.
This requires a deep understanding of the story that the video is trying to tell, and the emotions that the editor wants to convey. Is this the right time to cut to a close-up? Does this shot follow naturally from the previous one? These are just a few of the questions that a good editor constantly asks themselves while working on a project.
In this series of blog posts, I'll be discussing the different styles and techniques of video editing, and how they can be used to create a wide range of emotions and feelings. Whether you're interested in editing as a professional or just for fun, I hope that these posts will help you to better understand the art and craft of video editing. So stay tuned, and let's dive into the world of video editing together!
